Career Center adds new express hours

Towson University’s Career Center has extended express hours starting this semester. Express hours are an opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students to have their résumés reviewed without an appointment.

Express hours are in operation Monday – Thursday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Lorie Logan-Bennett, director of the Career Center, sees the extended express hours as a way to expand the space for a program that was at full capacity. Now the center will be able to help more students market themselves.

“It’s an on-demand service, and it’s a way for them to receive sort of quick and more immediate feedback on their ability to self-brand and self-market to potential employers,” Logan-Bennett said.  “Students can have résumés and even their cover letters reviewed in that 15-minute time frame.”
Should the approximate 15-minute time slot during express hours not be enough, students can make appointments for an even more thorough review of their résumés and cover letters.

At the Career Center, students are reviewed by specially trained peer-educators known as “career peer advisors.” Students undergo a training process in order to review résumés and cover letters.

On its website, the Career Center offers advice and resources to those looking for employment including sample résumés for each major, handouts on how to “review and polish” a résumé and a list of “résumé power verbs.”
