Columnist welcomes new shows

September is almost over, which means that school work is really starting to pile up. I believe that there are two possible answers as to why this always happens every year.

My first theory is that all professors have a group message and purposefully assign papers, research homework and the dreaded group projects all at the same time as part of their diabolical plan.

My second theory is that it has something to do with the fact that when October is just around the corner, is means that all of our favorite and most anticipated shows are finally coming back to our TV screens!

As much as I would like to live life fully believing in the fact that my professors have bangin’ group chat, I must confront the truth that stares back at me almost every weeknight.

I hate to admit it, but I am the person who takes up all the space on the DVR with three different shows that I say I’m going to watch all the way through once I find time in my schedule. That usually means that I avoid social media at all costs in efforts to avoid spoilers, which never really works.

I haven’t watched a full episode of “Pretty Little Liars” in years, but I feel like I could confidently explain what happened in the latest season finale. I also have social media to thank for helping me find out about the series that are going to take over this TV season.

This past week some of the biggest shows, “How To Get Away With Murder” and “Empire” have made their triumphant return while shows like “Scream Queens” and “Minority Report” made their long-awaited debut.

I think it’s safe to say that after just one week, I know that I have yet another reason to procrastinate doing my school work. In my humble opinion, both “Empire” and “HTGAWM” rose to the challenge and delivered a season premiere that will continue to captivate the attention of the audience they gained from their first season while “Scream Queens” and “Minority Report” did not deliver compared to the amount of hype and publicity they were given leading up to the premiere.

“Scream Queens” may be full of stars and ‘Minority Report’ has the upper-hand of a being seen as a classic movie, I don’t think it will be enough to keep these shows as strong contenders against these seasoned acts.
