Meet the URG 2016-2017 executive board

Vice President- Wayne Nichols

Hey everyone! My name is Wayne Nichols and I will be the Vice President for the following school year. I was also the treasurer this past year and am excited to continue on the board. A big initiative that I want to work on is making URG a household name, or for us, a residence hall name. Not as many people know about URG than they do about SGA. I want them to know all the great things that URG from the events that we or the Building Councils put on, the resolutions that we advocate for. We are able to make great change in the residence halls and I want everyone to know what URG can do.

Treasurer- Emily Trumble

My name is Emily Trumble and I am URG Treasurer. This past year I was a Building Representative for Prettyman and Scarborough Halls and the year previous I was Vice President of Barton House. Next year, I would love for URG to really get our name out into campus everyday life, with our logo everywhere and everyone knowing what we are and what we do. We are here for the on-campus resident experience, to make everyone feel at home and included on Towson’s campus. There are so many great things that URG has to offer everyone on campus and I want all students to know that they can take advantage of these wonderful opportunities!

Secretary- Jordan Gillespie

My name is Jordan Gillespie and I will serving as Secretary for University Residence Government for the 2016-2017 academic school year. I spend a lot of my time being an active student leader at Towson. I am currently involved in Zeta Tau Alpha, Lambda Kappa Tau and NRHH. I have previously been involved in CAB, Building Council and New Student Programs. My goal for URG as a whole is to form stronger connections with Greek Life, CAB and New Student Programs. I would like URG to be more present on campus. I am very excited to be working with an incredible board this semester.

National Communications Coordinator- Asante Littleton

My name is Asante Littleton and I will be serving as the National Communications Coordinator (NCC) for University Residence Government for the 2016-2017 academic school year. In this role I will represent TU at regional and national levels in boardroom conferences and vote on legislation that could impact on our own organization. I will be a senior next year and it is my hope that in this role I will create awareness of the opportunities available for on-campus students to become involved in activities outside of Towson’s campus. My vision is to ensure that everyone will know what the NCC does and will feel encouraged to go on and represent TU at the regional and national levels with me.

Director of Resident Advocacy- Rachel Chang

Hey there! My name is Rachel Chang. I am a transfer student here, and am entering into my junior year. My major is Middle School Education. I will be serving on the URG executive board as Director of Resident Advocacy. In this role I will be the connection between residents and on campus services, and I will ensure that any issues or concerns residents have are acknowledged by the right people and that everything that can be done is done. I will also be the one to see that any resolutions residents make for campus improvement are seen through to the end. My goal is for residents to feel heard and for any concerns they have to be taken care of. I am very excited to be serving this resident population this upcoming year, and don’t ever hesitate to speak up if you have any concerns at all. I’m here to listen.

Director of Special Projects- Melate Berhanu

My name is Melate Berhanu and I am the Director of Special Projects for the 2016-17 school year. One fun fact about me is that I’ve been to over 100 concerts! I am super excited to be a part of URG and its mission to enhance the resident experience. Two initiatives that I plan to take on for the next semester are by promoting diversity and having more students aware of this organization. As a school that prides itself in culture, it is beneficial to highlight the various forms of it. I want to facilitate collaborations with small groups on campus so that I can reach out and connect with more students. In addition, in terms of creating awareness for URG, my goal is to promote and engage students throughout the school year. I want students to see URG as an organization that provides for on-campus student needs, as well as a place where they can get involved!

Director of Civic Engagement- Jamie Fox

Hey everyone!! My name is Jamie Fox and I am so happy to be your next Director of Civic Engagement for the University Residence Government. My vision for the future of URG is that each member will be motivated to participate in more community service activities. I intend to do this by planning regular community service events and promoting the philanthropy all over campus. I know next year is going to be great and I am so excited to see all of the great things that we do for our community!

Director of Residential Inclusion- Julian Ventura

Greetings! My name is Julian Ventura and I am your Director of Residential Inclusion for the 2016-2017 school year! I am excited to work with the Center for Student Diversity and different groups and organizations on campus to ensure a successful year. If you have any questions, concerns, or something you would like to see happen, do not hesitate and contact me. I plan to be productive with making sure students can feel comfortable living on campus and surely have an inclusive campus for all residents at Towson University.

Director of Recognition-Jenn Tapler

My name’s Jenn Tapler and I’m going to be the Director of Recognition for the upcoming year! I spend a lot of my free time reading and writing and would much rather prefer to stay in than go out. I’m excited for the new year because I’ve always valued recognition, and getting to work with both URG and NRHH to promote recognition is something I know I am going to really enjoy, and I hope other people will too! My favorite part of recognition is the very personal, gentle reminders to people you care about that they’re doing a great job. So often I feel as though people try their hardest and are overlooked, and a friend telling someone they care about them can always brighten someone’s day. One of my main goals for the year is upping the Of The Month count that we have, I hope I can figure out a creative way to make this happen! It’s going to be a great year!
