Over 40 on and off-campus vendors showcased health resources the Wellness TU Fall Healthfest in the Potomac Lounge on Tuesday, Sept. 22.

Assistant Director of Health Promotion and Education Kirsten Roller hoped that the fair would get more students connected to the many health and wellness resources in the community.

“This fair shows how at Towson we really care about students’ well-being, and to let them know that we have all these really great wellness resources,” Roller said.

The event included presentations of free Zumba classes, guided meditation and relaxation practices, free massages and acupuncture, and healthy food choices from OrderUp and Chartwells.

The fair also included free HIV testing from the Baltimore County Health Department, free blood pressure screenings and flu shots.
Upon entering the fair, students received a passport that listed the “Eight Dimensions of Wellness.”

The various vendors gave stickers to students who came to their tables, and students with completed passports were entered into a drawing to receive a Fitbit.

Other giveaways included a UStore gift basket, a massage from the Health Center and a Campus Rec personal training session.

Freshman Taylor Crider attended the event with the hopes of becoming more informed about the various health services Towson offers.

“It’s very easy to fall into unhealthy habits in college because your parents aren’t around,” Crider said. “I think it’s important to inform people, because some people were just raised in unhealthy habits and really don’t know.”

Sophomore Jharna Chalise said that unhealthy habits are extremely easy to pick up on campus.

“There are a lot of unhealthy options on campus,” Chalise said. “The healthy options, like salads, can be very expensive. The more unhealthy options like burgers and desserts are sometimes cheaper.”

Chalise believed this event was extremely important to campus, saying that students “need to understand everything the campus is offering and everything that students can do to better themselves.”

Nurse Supervisor Ann Royer stressed the amount of resources available, saying that students can come in for any kind of screening they want.

“If students have any questions at all, just come to the Health Center,” she said. “We’re here for you all.”
