Towson falls to rival Northeastern at SECU

Towson fell to CAA rival Northeastern 63-51 Sunday afternoon at SECU Arena, marking the team’s eighth straight loss.
“We allowed Northeastern to have their way offensively, and we never imposed our will on them,” Head Coach Niki Reid Geckeler.
Northeastern started the game on a 13-2 run behind senior center Francesca Sally, who recorded six points during that run. She finished the game with 24 points.
The Tigers recovered before half thanks to freshman guard Etalyia Vogt, who cut the Huskies lead to seven points. Vogt ended the game with 12 points, all of which were scored in the first half.
Towson cut Northeastern’s lead to four to open up the third quarter, but a three from sophomore forward Gabby Giacone put Northeastern up by seven to end the third.
The Tigers cut the lead to six in the fourth quarter before the Huskies went on a 12-6 run to secure a 63-51 victory.
Vogt led the Tigers in scoring with 12 points. She also recorded three steals and two rebounds. Sophomore guard Sianni Martin added 10 points and redshirt sophomore center Maia Lee recorded a career-high 11 rebounds.
“Without the shots Vogt made in the first there is no telling how we would of went into the half,” Geckeler said. “Maia with double digit rebounds is all about aggression and will which is great to see.”
Down in production for the Tigers was senior guard Raven Bankston. Bankston, who is averaging 16.7 points per-game only had eight on Sunday. The Tigers also shot just 23 percent from downtown.
“We are waiting for all the pieces to come together all at once,” Geckeler said. “We have three more games before the tournament to get ready.”
Towson will hit the road Feb. 24 and take on Hofstra. The team will return home Sunday, when they will honor seniors Bankston and Brianna Bush on senior day.
