Towson placed 12th and set three school records in the Eastern Collegiate Athletics Conference Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend at Boston University’s Track and Tennis Center.

Head Coach Mike Jackson said he was pleased with the 10 student athletes that represented Towson this past weekend in the ECAC Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships.

“I thought it was one of the best performances we’ve ever had in history overall with our student-athletes from start to finish,” said Jackson.

The relay team of freshman Jamila Brown, sophomore Liz Reid, senior Megan Kelly and fifth year runner Kaitlyn Davis placed second with a school record time of 3:42.44 in the event.

Kelly placed third in the 500-meter finals with a time of 1:13.19 and placed 10th in the event’s preliminaries with a time of 1:14.16, which were both school records.

“It’s interesting, on day two on Saturday, Megan broke a school record in prelims on the 500 and the new moved forward to the four by four and we had a small record there,” Jackson said. “We broke the record by maybe six tenths of a second and then on the final day, today, we had a huge day.”

The outdoor track and field season will begin soon and Jackson and his team are already looking forward to future opportunities.

“It’s building blocks for outdoor season,” Jackson said. “All the student athletes are excited about what they can do getting to the outdoor season. The weather should be great with some of the places we’re going to, which include North Carolina, Texas, Virginia and Florida, so they’re looking forward to it.”

The outdoor track and field season starts with the 49er Classic which takes place March 16-18 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

“My expectation is for us to have some top marks so we’ll break a couple of school records, because that’s common,” Jackson said. “Also qualify for ECAC championships and get ready for championship season, which is probably about six weeks away.”
