Track & Field: Towson takes first

Towson won the two-day Morgan State Legacy meet Friday through Saturday at Hughes Stadium in Baltimore.

“We had a team meeting last week,” Head Coach Mike Jackson said. “I asked them to treat it like a conference competition, and they put on a great team effort.”

Junior Zanae Freeland won the 100-meter dash finals with an Eastern Continental Athletic Conference (ECAC) qualifying time of 4.86.

Freeland also placed sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.32.

Freshman Arianna Waller finished in seventh place in the 200-meter dash with a personal best of 25.05. Her time now ranks seventh on the program’s all-time list.

“A lot of our freshman had a great meet,” Jackson said.

Freshman Jaina McLean came in sixth place during the 100-meter dash. Her time of 12.15 is a personal best and ranks eight on the all-time program list.

Freshman Skyler Bacote finished 15th in the 400-meter run with a personal best of 58.28.

Towson had three top 10 runners in the 5,000-meter run. Collen Cook finished with a time of 18:27.67 for third place while Freshman Hannah Walter trailed in fourth place (18:26.42) and freshman Megan Lindstrom in eighth (19:10.36).

The 4×100-meter relay team of Freeland and freshmen Rachel Laryea, Liz Reid and Waller combined for third-place and an ECAC qualifying time of 47.01.

Freshman Abby Gauthier and sophomore Emily Johnson came in fourth and sixth respectively in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Gauthiers time of 11:40.48 ranks sixth on the all-time list while Johnson’s time of 11:43.11 ranks eighth.

In the field events, Senior Emerald Vickers came in seventh place in the high jump with a height of 1.58 meters.

In the pole-vault event, junior Brynn Warrington placed first with a height of 3.55 meters. Junior Courtney Rose came in second with a height of 3.40 meters and senior Maggie Rampolla finished third with a height of 3.40 meters.

In the discus throw, senior Ashleigh Stallings won the event with an ECAC qualifying distance of 43.67 meters while sophomore Taylor Weiss came in third.

“Everything came together,” Jackson said.

Towson will participate in a split squad meet next week as a select few will compete in the Penn Relays from April 28-30 while the rest of the squad travels to New Jersey to participate in the Lions Invitational from 29-30.
