Tigers notch sixth win of the season

Towson notched its sixth win of the season after a close 4-3 dual match against Duquesne at the Green Spring Racquet Club in Lutherville, Maryland, Friday.

The Tigers clinched the doubles point by winning two of the three doubles matches, and sealed the victory with three singles match wins.

Head Coach Doug Neagle called it a “very solid win.”

In the doubles competition, Duquesne’s number one doubles team of Kylie Isaacs and Julianne Herman beat sophomore’s Nicole Shakhnazarova and Barbora Vasilkova 6-3.

Towson won the other two doubles matches to take the doubles point as sophomore Lucy Williams and freshman Lucy Gloninger defeated Megan Wasson and Alexa Miller 6-2 at number two doubles and sophomore’s A.J. Gomer and Renate van Oorschodt defeated Maddy Adams and Ally Miller 6-4 at number three doubles.

Duquesne remained competitive in the singles competition as Isaacs beat number one Williams 6-3, 6-1 and Alexa Miller beat number four van Oorschodt 7-6 (5), 6-1.

Herman ended Vasilkova’s perfect 8-0 record in dual matches this season with a 6-4, 6-2 win at number two singles.

The Tigers won the remaining three singles matches as number three Shakhnazarova won 7-5, 6-2 over Adams and number five junior Sophie Lesage won 6-3, 6-4 over Masson.

Sophomore and number six Yevgeniya Shusterman won 6-4, 6-4 over Ally Miller, giving Towson the decisive fourth point in the dual match.

With the win, Towson’s record stands at 6-3 for the season. The team posts a 3-1 record at home, and a 6-1 record in matches after taking the opening doubles point.

The Tigers will travel down to the Carolinas for four dual matches over spring break.

They face Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) rival College of Charleston March 14, Savannah State March 16, University of Massachusetts March 17, and CAA rival UNCW March 19.
