Bucaro and Freeland win events at Lehigh

Coming off of a second place finish at Bucknell’s Gulden Invite in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, last Saturday, Towson had another strong meet in Lehigh’s John Covert Classic on Saturday afternoon in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

In the meet, the Tigers won two events victories and added 10 top 3 finishes in the non-teaming scoring meet.

Senior distance runner Kara Bucaro earned a victory in the one-mile run with a time of 5:18.99 while sophomore distance runner Megan Knoblock finished right behind with a time of 5:19:47.

Along with top 2 finishes in the one-mile run, the Tigers took top 3 spots in the 60-meter dash. Sophomore Zanae Freeland won after recording a time of 7.79. Right behind Freeland was junior Kaitlyn Davis who recorded a time of 7.85 and junior Kelsey Fields who recorded a time of 7.89.

In the 60-meter hurdle event, Davis missed the top 3 cut, finishing fourth with a time of 9.21.

Freshman Brittany Shields recorded a time of 26.44 in the 200-meter dash, senior Emily Wegner recorded a time of 1:17.40 in the 500-meter dash, and junior Ashleigh Stallings recorded a distance of 41’11.50” in the shot put event, all times and distances proving good enough for second-place finishes.

In the long jump event, sophomore Aharon Abus-Salaam placed third with a distance of 17’4.25” and in the pole vault event junior Maggie Rampolla placed third with a mark of 11’1.75”.

The Tigers also had success in their relay events by placing in the top 3 for both the 4×400-meter relay and the 4×800-meter relay.

In the 4×400-meter relay, the Tigers finished in second-place after Davis, sophomore Danielle Alessi, sophomore Amanda Famularo and Wegner finished with a time of 4:05.59.

In the 4×800-meter relay, the Tigers finished in third-place after Bucaro, sophomore Jayne Cunha, Knoblock and junior Kelsey Kollar finished with a time of 10:24.61.

“We were very happy with the results,” junior pole vaulter Maggie Rampolla said. “But expect more to come from the team.”

Towson will travel to Akron, Ohio on Feb. 6 to compete in the 11th-Annual Akron Invitational. The two-day tournament will take place at Stile Athletics Field House with both meets scheduled to kickoff at 10 a.m.
