“Insurgent” continues line of book series to movies

By: Ryan Permison, Staff Writer

Since the success of franchises such as “Harry Potter”, “Twilight” and “The Hunger Games” everyone wants in on the action.

Most young adult novel adaptations have failed to make it past the first film, and many have mixed success with both audiences and critics alike. Now, another book to movie sequel has arrived with “Insurgent”, the second film in “The Divergent Series” franchise.

Picking up where they left off, Tris (Shailene Woodley), Four (Theo James) and others are on the run from the Erudite faction led by Jeanine (Kate Winslet) who fears an uprising from the other factions.

Meanwhile, Tris and Four also try to figure out what the Abnegation faction is trying to protect that could hold the key to the answers they are looking for.

If you’re looking for a good action-adventure film, this is it. There is more action, and we learn more about Four’s origins.

Plus, they added some big name stars to the cast who do an excellent job with the limited amount of time they have on screen. Some of the dialogue and explanations are somewhat clichéd, but it was an enjoyable film.

I could have gone without the 3D though. I give “The Divergent Series: Insurgent” seven out of 10 stars.
