McKellar fuels third-place finish

Towson placed third in a quad-meet hosted by New Hampshire with West Virginia and Brown. New Hampshire finished first with a total score of 196.525, followed by West Virginia with 196.300. Towson fell just a few points behind in third place with 194.975 and Brown finished fourth with 193.475.

It was another meet full of career-high scores from the Tigers. Freshman Tyra McKellar earned her career high for the night on bars with a score of 9.900 and first place in the event. Junior Vicki Vesecky placed fifth with 9.750.

Senior Janis Konkle and freshman Lauren Cahalan led the Tigers on beam with matching scores of 9.750. Sophomore Bridget Steffen and senior Lauren Ross both finished closely behind with scores of 9.700.

McKellar earned her second career high on the floor exercise with a score of 9.900 and tied for third in the event. Senior Nicolette Vignola and Cahalan tied for eighth with matching scores of 9.850, both career highs.

The Tigers finished the meet on the vault where junior Katie Sassa led the team with her score of 9.825. McKellar followed with a score of 9.725 and Vignola with 9.675.

McKellar placed third in the meet’s all-around competition with a total score of 39.175 marking her second Top 3 finish this season.

The team will host the Penn on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 4 p.m. for the annual Shelli Calloway Memorial Invitational.
