Netflix series delivers: “Kimmy Schmidt” season 2 bigger, funnier than ever

Congratulations! If you’re reading this, that means you survived Tigerfest 2k16, and that deserves some recognition. Maryland weather came through for us and this weekend’s weather has me feeling very #blessed.
While I didn’t participate in pretty much any aspect of this years’ Tigerfest, this weekend was still just as memorable, aka I binge-watched season two of “The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” on Netflix when it aired April 15.
When the show debuted last year, I was definitely peer pressured into watching it and questioned myself multiple times throughout the early episodes wondering if it would be worth it in the end. Thankfully, it was, and I have been anxiously awaiting the new season ever since.
I had extremely high expectations for this season; I wanted it to be bigger, funnier and hopefully give me a little less second-hand embarrassment. In my opinion, the second season gave me all that and more.
It’s always been obvious that the show is Tina Fey produced because of the jokes and overall theme, but Fey brought a whole new kind of funny to season two. Not only were there amazing guest appearances that contributed to the storyline like Anna Camp, Ice-T and Amy Sedaris, but Fey herself finally interceded.
Playing Kimmy Schmidt’s new psychiatrist, Fey’s character helps the audience understand that life in the bunker isn’t the only thing Kimmy is trying to keep buried.
Just like the first season, season two has multiple storylines and plots happening at once. Unfortunately, the plot line I was most excited to see develop concerning Kimmy’s love life was easily forgettable and honestly kind of annoying and boring.
The shining star of season two is Tituss Burgess, who plays Tituss Andromedon, Kimmy’s singing larger-than-life roommate. Burgess’ personality is infectious and his delivery on every joke is spot-on quickly making him a scene stealer.
As a character, Andromedon had a few problematic moments that made me believe he was using Kimmy’s niceness to his advantages, but that quickly changed and he remains to be at the top of the show.
Nothing can compare to the wildfire that last season’s Pinot Noir started, but there were tons of gif-able moments that will make this season be even more popular than the last. Long live the unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt!
