The Towson Tigers wrapped up the regular season on Sunday with a 5-2 win over the Delaware Blue Hens.

The teams split a doubleheader on Sunday. The Tigers (35-20, 10-11 Colonial Athletic Association) have won 24 of their last 29 games and they’ll be the fourth seed in the CAA tournament, which runs from May 6-8. The winner will head to the NCAA tournament.

“Everything we have worked towards is finally falling into place and this is the best time of the year for it to happen,” senior pitcher Missy McCormick said.

McCormick took the mound on Sunday and allowed just two runs in a complete-game effort. She finished the regular season with a 19-6 record and posted a 2.09 ERA, the lowest of her career at Towson.

“I’ve grown as a player and person this year,” McCormick said. “I have been on top of my workouts and worked hard with my pitching coach to execute during every opportunity. This was my chance to step up as a senior.”

McCormick also singled in the first run of the game for the Tigers in the first inning.

The Blue Hens responded quickly and grabbed a 2-1 lead in the second inning.

The Tigers took the lead back in the third inning with the help of RBI doubles from infielder Brook Miko, infielder Shelby Stracher and a solo home run by McCormick.

The Tigers extended their lead in the fourth inning to 5-2 when Miko was hit by a pitch.

McCormick retired the Blue Hens in order in the final inning to win the game.

In Saturday’s games, the Tigers won the first game 5-2 and dropped the second game 4-0.

The Tigers head to Harrisonburg, Virginia for the CAA tournament hosted by the James Madison Dukes (44-6, 19-0 CAA), the top seed in the double-elimination tournament.

Hofstra is the No. 2 seed and Elon is the No. 3 seed.

The Tigers get a chance to avenge a loss to the Dukes in the CAA championship game last season. They will face the Dukes on Wednesday at noon. The Dukes have won 34 straight games.

“The key to success is to remember that everyone has a 0-0 record in the tournament, and team who has the most pride wins,” McCormick said.
