The Tigers lost 2-5 to Navy at the Tose Family Tennis Center in Annapolis, Maryland, Sunday morning.

Towson started off strong, sweeping the doubles competition with wins by all three doubles teams.

The singles competition was much tougher for the Tigers, as each of the six matches turned into hotly contested battles.

“[Navy was] really tough on the crucial points,” Head Coach Doug Neagle said. “They buckled down and played high percentage tennis.”

Towson’s number one doubles team of Lucy Williams and Lucy Gloninger won 7-6 (4) over Navy’s Amanda Keller and Claudia Mackenzie.

Number two doubles A.J. Gomer and Renate van Oorschodt beat Audrey Channell and Anastasia Kondrasov 6-4, while number three doubles Sophie Lesage and Barbora Vasilkova defeated Summer Ralston and Carlee Conway 6-2.

Towson earned just one more match victory once singles action began, as number two Vasilkova defeated Kristine Rojo 6-4, 1-6, 7-5.

Navy took the rest of the singles matches, as Keller beat number one Williams 6-4, 7-5 and Mackenzie beat number three Lesage 7-6 (3), 6-3. Katie Porter defeated number four Gomer 6-3, 6-3.

Navy’s last two singles wins were comebacks from a set down, as Conway beat number five van Oorschodt 6-7 (5), 6-0, 6-3, and Josie Rogers beat number six Gloninger 1-6, 6-1, 7-6 (3).

Towson’s record drops to 5-3 for the season, ending a two-match win streak.

“One point here or there could have changed the outcome of some of the matches,” Neagle said. “It’s a tough one to swallow.”

Friday, the Tigers will host Duquesne at the Green Spring Racquet Club in Lutherville, Maryland.
