Towson placed second at Texas Woman’s University’s quad meet on Sunday, competing with the host school, Centenary College and San Jose State.

The Tigers scored a total of 194.125 points falling short of first-place San Jose with 194.375 points. Texas Woman’s finished third with 193.150 and Centenary placed fourth with 188.925 points.

“We had a really rough warm-up across the board,” Head Coach Vicki Chliszczyk said. “There were a lot of distractions that were out of our control. But I think the girls did a fantastic job pulling it together when it counted.”

Senior Lauren Ross scored a 9.775 on the balance beam claiming first-place in the event. Freshman Tyra McKellar placed fifth with a 9.700.

“Our beam team is definitely strong,” Chliszczyk said. “They’ve done an amazing job of being confident up there and not having faults. It’s easy to fall off but it’s definitely proving to be a strength for us.”

Junior Katie Sassa finished first on vault with a score of 9.850 followed closely behind by McKellar with a score of 9.775 to finish fifth.

Senior Samantha Lutz and freshman Noelle Harada both scored 9.800 on the uneven bars to tie for third-place.

Freshman Lauren Cahalan tied for second and set a career-high score of 9.775 on the floor exercise, followed by McKellar with a 9.725. McKellar finished second in the all-around results with a total score of 38.950.

“We had a great road score that will be able to help us in our overall rankings,” Chliszczyk said. “There’s definitely room for improvement, but we met all of our in-meet goals which was the first time we’ve done that this season.”

The Tigers are set to compete in a quad meet on Feb. 8 at New Hampshire with West Virginia and Brown at 1 p.m.
