The University of Michigan-Flint’s former Dean of the School of Management, Aneil Mishra, will serve as the next dean for Towson University’s College of Business and Economics, acting-Provost Cynthia Cooper announced Wednesday.

“I am incredibly honored to serve as the next Dean of the College of Business and Economics at Towson University,” Mishra said in a press release. “I am especially excited to work with President Perreault, Provost Cooper, colleagues at the college and my fellow deans to ensure student success and make alumni proud.”

The decision comes after a two-month search following the retirement of former Dean Shohreh Kaynama in November 2022. Mishra will begin his tenure on July 5, 2023, and replace current acting-Dean Judy Harris.

“We are very pleased to announce that [Mishra] will be joining the university as TU’s Dean of the College of Business & Economics,” Cooper wrote in a message to the campus. “Dr. Mishra was clearly the top candidate after an extensive national search.”

Echoing Cooper, Interim-President Melanie Perreault cited Mishra’s background in research and philanthropy as reasons for him being the best candidate for the role.

“TU’s College of Business and Economics is already nationally recognized for its excellence, and Dean Mishra’s leadership will undoubtedly enhance this college’s impact and our university’s growing culture of entrepreneurship,” she said in a press release

Mishra earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from Princeton University and a Ph.D. in business administration from the University of Michigan.

He’s also published several academic journals and coauthored three books, Cooper said.

As the dean, Mishra will oversee seven academic departments that include 2,812 students in fall 2022, according to university data.
