Towson women’s soccer first conference game against Delaware ends in tie at 0

By Sam Peterson, Senior Staff Writer

With a late start due to inclement weather, the Towson women’s soccer team finished with their first tie of the season at 0 against the visiting University of Delaware.

Senior forward Jasmine Hamid led the Tiger’s offense with seven shots, two of them on goal. Towson’s offense fell short despite creating 15 shots throughout the entirety of the game.

“We created a lot of chances but we just couldn’t stick it in the back of the net. Their goalkeeper came up with some very big saves tonight,” Vettori said.

“We had a little adversity with the weather. We came out and played really well. The only thing that we were missing we didn’t give up anything scary defensively. I thought we defended well and created a lot of chances we just couldn’t stick it in the back of the net

The Tigers faced a physical first half against the Blue Hens. Both teams traded possessions early with neither giving up an opportunity to take the lead. As the half continued, the Tigers were able to gain control.

Towson was able to create more opportunities taking nine shots to the Blue Hens two. The Tiger’s two shots on goal came late in the half, with Hamid having her shot saved in the 40th minute. Two minutes later, senior midfielder Rebecca Groseibl followed up with a shot to the top center of the goal but Blue Hens goalkeeper Mia Reed was there to make the save.

The Tigers currently sit 4-1-1 after earning their third shutout of the season.

“I’m very proud of the shutout. I think again, defensively we played really well. That’s good,” Vettori said.

Towson will play their second CAA game of the year on Sep. 10 against the College of Charleston at 1 p.m.
