Homeland Security Investigations backs out of Towson career fair

Homeland Security Investigations has withdrawn from the Fall 2025 Career and Internship Fair, according to Towson University officials.

Homeland Security Investigation, known as HSI, is a division of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and was slated to attend Towson’s upcoming Fall 2025 Career and Internship Fair on Sept. 26.

“HSI informed the Career Center they would not be staffing a space at next week’s Career Fair,” a university spokesperson told The Towerlight over text on Friday.

Towson’s Young Democratic Socialists club, known as YDSA, celebrated the withdrawal in a press release posted to Instagram Friday.

“This displays the power of our student body when we organize,” the statement said.

This marks the second time HSI has withdrawn from a Towson career fair. Last semester HSI withdrew from the Spring 2025 fair after student organizations created a petition and held protests in opposition to its attendance.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement, known as ICE, has garnered backlash as it’s increased the amount of raids on immigrants living in the country. HSI is a division of ICE that focuses on global crime impacting America.

YDSA planned a rally against HSI’s attendance for Monday and it will still proceed as scheduled, according to Co-Chair Davis Payton. The rally will take place at Tiger Plaza at 3:30 p.m.
