A fast start by Towson in the first quarter and two goals from forward Lexi Bove gave the Tigers their third win of the season.
The Towson Tigers took on Queens out of the ASUN conference and quickly jumped out to a great start. Two minutes into the game midfielder, Fiene Valkenburg, scored the first goal of her career to put the Tigers in the lead. They continued to pressure the Royals and only minutes later Lexi Bove scored after a shot from Shannon Quaile ended up at her stick, making it Bove’s second goal of the season.
Towson would dominate the play in the first quarter as Queens couldn’t generate any offense. Their only shot on goal in the quarter was saved confidently by goalkeeper, Tessa Scheenstra.
The second quarter would start out the same way as the first quarter. Forward, Anouk Westerink would hit the post on a scoring chance to begin the quarter. Then three minutes into the quarter she would score to make it 3-0. That was her fourth of the year which makes her the leading scorer for the Tigers.
The Tigers would dominate the second quarter putting pressure on the Royals defense and outshooting them 7-4.
The second half was more back and forth between the two teams with each team not generating many scoring chances. Scheenstra saved the only shot Queens had in the quarter. The Tigers drew a penalty stroke, but Kristin Strijdom’s shot was saved by Queens goalkeeper Madison Destefano.
The score would remain 3-0 throughout the quarter until the end. With eight seconds to go in the quarter, Madisyn Howard’s shot would get deflected by Sarah Salameh and then deflected by Lexi Bove and into the net to give Bove her second goal of the game.
The Tigers would hold the shutout in the fourth quarter and beat the Royals 4-0 to move them to .500 with a record of 3-3. Towson’s looks to extend their winning streak to three on Sept 20th as they play their first conference game vs Delaware (2-3) at home, Sept. 20th at 3 p.m.
