Towson Volleyball caps off the two-game weekend series against William & Mary with a win, but it was far from easy.

In Saturday’s game, outside hitter Victoria Barrett led the Tigers with 23 kills, and they defeated William & Mary 3-0. In the second game, the Tribe put up a fight.

The Tigers started the first set where they left off the day before. They scored the first five points of the game, with middle blocker Ylenia De Mango leading the charge with two kills. William & Mary would put together a 3-0 run, but that would be the closest they got to a tie in that set. The Tigers would win set one 25-14.

The beginning of set two was back and forth. The Tigers would take a 9-7, and they did not look back. They would go on an 8-2 run to go up 17-9. The Tigers would continue to dominate, scoring the last five points in a row, with outside hitter Sarah Callender scoring two aces.

William & Mary would fight back into the game during the third set. The entire set was neck and neck. The Tribe would go on a 3-0 run, and then the Tigers would respond with a 3-0 run of their own. With the score tied at 8-8, the Tribe would start to pull away. Their lead would stay at six for most of the set. The Tigers wouldn’t quit though, as setter Kaitlyn Moran would assist Victoria Barrett for a kill that would start a 5-1 run to make it 24-21, but the Tribe’s outside hitter Maddie Meyers would win the set.

The fourth set was just as contested as the third. Both teams would trade points, but William & Mary seemed to gain confidence throughout the set. The Tribe would take a 14-14 score and outscore the Tigers 7-2. The Tigers seemed to show life at the end of the set when setter Jessie Maisie assisted Barrett for another kill, but the Tribe would win the set.

In the winner takes all fifth set, the Tigers came out on fire. They would outscore the Tribe 11-2 to start the set. They wouldn’t give William & Mary any chance to comeback, as Kaitlyn Moran would set up Sarah Callender for a kill to end the game. The Tigers would win 3-2 and remain undefeated at home this season (9-0).

Sarah Callender would have a season high in kills with 14, and Victoria Barrett would lead the Tigers in kills with 22.

Towson (11-1, 2-0) will travel to the reigning CAA champions Delaware Blue Hens (6-3, 2-0) for a weekend series on Saturday, Sept. 28th.
