The Towson University Student Government Association Tuesday appointed Kennedy Bennett as its new chief justice in a unanimous vote by the senate.

This is Bennett’s third term in the SGA. She previously served as an associate justice.

“I want to make sure that all students at Towson University are being fairly heard and treated in all aspects, so that is really my main priority as being chief justice,” Bennett said after being confirmed.

Attorney General Jenna Jalloh said interested members applied by submitting a letter showcasing their qualifications and relevant experience that they would take into the role.

Three justices submitted letters of interest, President Jordan Colquitt said in a message Wednesday.

After evaluating the letters, Colquitt nominated Bennett to move forward in the process and give a speech at Tuesday night’s meeting, where the senate would confirm the vote.

“Picture this,” Bennett said. “Towson University, a vibrant community of student life buzzing with energy, dreams, and ambitions. Now, imagine a chief justice for our student government association who embodies dedication, leadership and relentless commitment to fairness. That is the vision that I want to bring to you all today.”

Bennett, a graduate of the Junior Police Academy with awards in athleticism and leadership, has extensive involvement in on-campus organizations. She is a member of the Pre-Law Society, the Sisterhood Organization and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, of which she is president.

She said she is excited to take on her new role with a fresh perspective.

“I’m not just here for one group, I’m here to ensure that every voice, every perspective is heard in all aspects,” Bennett said. “As Chief Justice, I believe in upholding the principles of justice, ethics and integrity, which are vital in maintaining the credibility and effectiveness of the Student Government Association.”
