Towson’s football team received big news on Monday afternoon with the announcement that former University of Oregon quarterback Morgan Mahalak had transferred to the program.
“We are happy that we have secured a commitment from such a talented young quarterback,” Head Coach Rob Ambrose said on towsontigers.com “Morgan brings a tremendous amount of potential and secures great competition at the quarterback position.”
Mahalak will have three years of college eligibility left and will compete with sophomore quarterback Ellis Knudson and senior quarterback Heath Dahlgreen for the starting job.
Mahalak never played at Oregon, but was highly recruited out of Marin Catholic H.S. in Kentfield, California. He was rated as a four-star recruit and the eleventh best quarterback in the country, according to Rivals.com.
In high school, Mahalak backed up University of California quarterback Jared Goff, who is projected to be picked in the first round of the NFL Draft.
At Marin Catholic H.S., Mahalak took over as starter after Goff graduated and finished with 2,725 passing yards and 38 touchdowns. He also rushed for 575 yards and seven touchdowns.
Towson adds Mahalak to a class that already had big recruits in outside linebacker DyMelle Parker and running back Deshaun Wethington.
