Towson split two contests on the road this weekend, defeating UNC Wilmington Sunday afternoon, but falling to College of Charleston Friday night.
Sunday Towson earned a 3-1 win against UNCW (7-11, 1-5 CAA). The victory snapped a three-game losing streak that the team had suffered.
Leading the way for the Tigers was senior outside hitter Julymar Otero, who recorded her second triple-double of the season. She registered 22 assists, 12 kills and 12 digs.
Junior outside hitter Carola Biver and sophomore setter Marissa Wonders also had strong performances. Biver finished with 15 digs and 13 kills, while Wonders added 35 assists and 15 digs.
The Tigers started the match by dropping a close first set to the Seahawks 25-23. The team quickly rebounded, winning three straight sets 25-12, 25-20 and 25-22.
Towson hit .353, its best hitting percentage on the season for a match that went four or more sets. The team also hit a match-high .517 in the second set of the match and held UNCW to a .255 hitting percentage in the match.
The Tigers (17-3, 3-3 CAA) began the weekend with a 3-0 loss against the Cougars (16-4, 5-1 CAA).
In the team’s loss, Wonders returned after having missed the last two matches due to an injury. In her return, she recorded 14 assists and seven digs.
Sophomore middle blocker Silvia Grassini led the way for the Tigers with seven kills and two blocks, while junior Jocelyn Kuilan added seven kills of her own.
Towson resumes action Oct. 11, as the team head to Delaware. Towson will then take a road trip to James Madison on Oct. 15, before returning home to face Elon Oct. 20 at SECU Arena.
